UFC 145
It’s a fight many UFC fans are looking forward to. Main event competitors Rashad “Suga” Evans (17-1-1) and Jon “Bones” Jones (15-1-0) will meet in the Octagon at UFC 145 April 21 at Phillips Arena in Atlanta. Jones defends his title as light heavyweight champion, and his teammate-turned-rival who formerly the title in the same division, plans to strip him of the belt.
Evans has been working his way to regaining the title since his loss to Lyoto Machida in 2009, but Jones recently defeated Machida at UFC 140 in December of last year. There’s no doubt that both are skilled fighters, but many in the UFC realm are asking the question, “Who wants it more?” The personal spat between the two began when injury prevent Evans from reclaiming the light heavyweight title against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128. Jones took Evans place in the Octagon and came out victorious with a third-round TKO. Jones became the youngest champion in the history of the UFC.
Jones has said that he is fighting to defend the loyalty of Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he and Jones previously trained together.
UFC couldn’t have said it better: “What was once a friendship, turned into betrayal, and now the fight is on.”
Other fighters on the main card include: Rory MacDonald vs. Che Mills, Brendan Schaub vs. Ben Rothwell, Miguel Angel Torres vs. Michael McDonald, Mark Hominick vs. Eddie Yagin, and Mark Bocek vs. John Alessio.
