At twenty years of age, Justin Moosang hasn’t had a ton of rides. His previous ride was an Acura TSX which was more of a luxury ride than a straight performer. However, his father has been a huge Subaru fan for most of his life, having owned a 2006 STi since its initial release — so the roots grow strong. Fast forward to today and Justin is now the proud owner of a twin STi that has an overtly aggressive stance by his own design.
Daily driven and put away wet, this ride has morphed progressively since its purchase just over a year ago. The first thing that was on Moosang’s mind was returning the wing to the previously swapped and trunkless rear. An OEM STi rear wing was mounted and then further customized with Perrin wing stiffies and a custom-made gurney flap for better aerodynamics. The rest of the body also has been modified for a more aggressive stance thanks to ABW 40mm fender flares that allow for an offset of +15 on his 18-by-10.5 matte bronze Work Emotion D9rs and the BC Racing BR coilovers.
The body treatment continues with more goodies such as the Chargespeed side skirt extensions, the OEM style front lip, and Airforce Dynamics canards for the front bumper. An enormous Strafe Design diffuser sits just under the rear, nicely wrapped around the full Tomei catless turbo-back exhaust.
Continuing on into the engine add-ons, Moosang was actually quite content with the current level of power and performance. He took a moment to increase reliability with a Mishimoto radiator coupled with a Forge coolant expansion tank. Bolt-ons include those previously mentioned along with an Injen short ram intake and Tomei headers. Dress-up items are numerous and include a Beatrush pully cover and a Perrin radiator cover.
The power is transferred to the transmission via an upgraded ACT Streetlite flywheel and Extreme Duty clutch. Combined with the Kartboy short-throw shifter, Moosang is able to bang up through the gears effortlessly while monitoring boost and oil pressure with his dash mounted AEM gauges. All told, this power combination netted him 324AWHP/341TQ on the dyno thanks to a tune by Anthony Berry of Drunkmann Tuning.
With the trackless limitation being a factor here, he’s opted to save the big modifications for when he returns to the mainland, with the full intent to track the car as often as he can. For the moment however, Moosang is content to build his car for his own enjoyment. “It’s not that I don’t really care about other’s opinions,” he shared. “It’s just that I want the car to be how I have always planned it to be.”
