Sanzaru Games is known as a studio that works on remasters. The team has put together remade versions of “Spyro,” “God of War” and “Sly Cooper.”

Although the developer has seen success with those projects, the Foster City-based studio is also becoming one of the better-known teams working on virtual reality projects. They’ve already made three games for the Oculus Rift, including the “Marvel Powers United VR.” Taking the lessons from its previous project, the team has poured it into “Asgard’s Wrath,” a combat-heavy game inspired by Norse mythology.

From the looks of it, the game appears to bring some of the action they experimented with in “Marvel Powers United VR” and gameplay elements from titles such as “Blade and Sorcery” to create a more polished combat experience.

Players take on the role of a Fledgling God, who has attracted the attention of Loki. He promises players power, but they must prove their worth by undergoing missions called Sagas. From the sound of it, the game is shaping up to be a single-player adventure game, in which players develop powers with each mission and those powers unlock more combat potential. Battling is said to be visceral and skill-based. Players can do things like “catch” a dagger with the shield, pull it out and toss it back at foes. There appears to be a sandbox element with how players hack and slash, but Oculus Studios executive Mike Doran promises that there will be video game elements that require precision.

To deepen the gameplay, Doran also said there will be “crafting, disposable weapons and elemental traits.”

Aside from the combat, the other big selling point appears to be the ability to switch from mortal and god form. The two different sizes lets the developers play with scale and allow the team to use it in puzzles and other challenges.

“Asgard’s Wrath” looks like another promising VR title set to come out this year. Expect to see more details in the future.
