Grip Break Takedown Counter
BY BURTON RICHARDSON
We recently looked at using your shin to break the opponent’s grip on your wrist. Simply lift your knee up and drive your shin down on his wrist while pulling your arm away. It is a great move but there is a powerful counter you should know if your opponent tries this on you.
You have the opponent’s wrist. As he lifts his knee to break your grip, bend your knees and loop your arm under his shin while stepping in. You now have his leg in the air. Grab his body with your free arm and use your legs to explode upward to take him off his feet. The landing is very awkward, and you end up in a great position on top of a stunned opponent.
