Choke Counter- Ankle Lock
By Burton Richardson
Danger! The opponent is on your back. He is looking to choke you out and win the fight. First priority- Defense! But we don’t want to only have a defensive mindset.
If your defense is strong and automatic, you can look to attack. A common mistake from the back is to cross the ankles. This gives you an opportunity for an ankle lock.
With the opponent’s ankles crossed, throw your leg over his top foot. Now cross your feet, pull down, and lift your hip. His bottom shin acts as a fulcrum as you put pressure on his foot. The result is an ankle lock where his ankle can actually break. You go from a bad position to making the opponent tap out!
