Now that we’ve gotten the big guns out of the way, let’s talk about some of the other promising titles from Tokyo Game Show 2019 that got overshadowed by the juggernauts of Kojima and Cloud.

Before the holiday season arrives and a deluge of games hits the shelves, it’s best to clear the slate and check out titles that have gone overlooked during the summer.

There were two titans that dominated the news coming out of this year’s Tokyo Game Show: Death Stranding and Final Fantasy VII Remake. Hideo Kojima finally debuted some gameplay for his mysterious title, and it’s … not what anyone expected?

PlatinumGames’ Astral Chain takes place after an asteroid has struck Earth. The disaster doused the planet with toxic Red Matter and opened a rift to the astral realm. Creatures called chimera poured out of these gates attacked people while spreading their corruption. Humanity built a refuge called the Ark and developed weapons called Legions to fight the chimera. Using the astral chain, people have managed to subjugate chimeras and use the creatures to their benefit.

Chambers Escape Rooms in Kakaʻako boasts that it hosts the only third-generation escape room on the island. Owner Ron Bronstein invited me to come try his masterpiece for myself, so I gathered a team (my Dungeons & Dragons party) and headed over.
