I’ll just say this: “GTA V” excels so thoroughly in presenting the best open-world experience in gaming that I spent the better part of a day doing everything but play the story mode.

Jude and Milla approach the story from different angles. He is a student learning to master new skills, and she is a once-all-powerful being whose powers were stripped away. But they quickly forge a bond that continues throughout the game.

Just a brief word about the latest — and final — downloadable content (DLC) pack for 2012’s fantastic “Dishonored” game. Whereas most DLC focuses on additional adventures of a main character, the folks at Bethesda have treated gamers instead to the life and experiences of a rarely seen character from the main quest.

When a franchise hits its 25th year, it should shelve the run-of-the-mill release until year 26 and roll out something truly transformative. EA clearly had time to prepare.

“Blacklist” carries over much of the visual flair and excellence from the last game in the series, “Conviction.”

The “Saints Row” franchise has changed dramatically from one edition to the next. I don’t think a single gamer would think the first and fourth games came from the same franchise if played side by side.

The plot takes on some grown-up themes, and from the get-go you feel the weight that these two boys carry as they push forward, discovering their own bravery and courage.

Just when I thought I’d seen role-playing elements invade every genre in video games, the good folks at EA blindsided me by making its college-football franchise into an RPG game.
