Alex Ngyuen knows his rides. Since he was 18, Ngyuen has owned a limited selection of modified rides that includes a ’97 Honda Civic and the classic ’89 VW GTi. Over time, he’s garnered an appreciation for the VIP scene and traded it all in for this 2003 Lexus GS300.
When it came to this build, Ngyuen opted to concentrate on a blend of GT and VIP style, which equates to big brakes, racing wheels and a slammed stance that sits as low as you can go. This is all immediately recognizable when you first lay eyes on the car.
The jet-black exterior is very clean and functional, featuring a Prussian Blue kit with front lip, side-skirts and a half-rear bumper. White LED puddle lights pool lazily in the dark in a striking contrast with the ultra rare Aristo carbon fiber pillar and license plate garnishes. A selection of aftermarket OEM components add to the body while a slick Megan carbon fiber roof wing graces the rear window. A dual muffler APEXi catback exhaust adds some further sport for looks.
Any air suspension system needs the right components and this Lexus has it in spades. An Airrunner Air Suspension has been fitted in a gorgeous, custom-etched trunk setup with a color-change display. On view behind the plexiglass are dual VIAAIR 444c compressors along with the hardlines and stainless steel tank. A really cool set of LED infinity mirrors grace the enclosure and add a serious amount of depth to the entire display.
The suspension has been completely reworked to include a large selection of T-Demand components. This allows some wicked camber for the tuck on double-pressed black Volk Racing TE37 SLs, which are sized 19×10.5 all around. Tucked behind these sexy wheels are sumptuous red Endless 4 and 6 pot brake calipers matched to 356mm slotted rotors with gold top hats.
When it comes to VIP cars, the interior can be just as important as the exterior and this ride doesn’t disappoint. JDM wood accent has been added, while rare JDM Aristo-laced seat covers and a rare trunk mat are on display. In the rear, a set of Junction Produce Collaboration Recaro baby seats are perfect for Ngyuen’s nieces and nephews, while a custom 10-inch subwoofer powered by the Pioneer double-din DVD player helps soothe the young ones when it’s time for a little nap. Ngyuen can also raise and lower the ride with a touch of a button thanks to the AirLift 3H Management controller.
A lot of people become obsessed with building their cars so much that there’s never any down time to actually enjoy their hard work. For Ngyuen, this ride has been four years in the making. It’s been through a few changes, but he’s happy with the end result.
“I am definitely satisfied with the car. I’m done. There’s no more stressing and now I can just sit back and enjoy,” he said.
