PaigeFTW: Taming the Behemoth
There are certain games that require Commitment to play through — yes, with a capital C. These are games so ambitious and vast that you just cannot get through them in anything less than 50 hours.
Final Fantasy XV is one of these games. So today I have compiled some brief tips to help make the way a little easier.
Camp wisely. Never just stay at the closest spot. My basic rule is that if I have accumulated more than 5,000 experience points, I will stay in a motel or hotel because a 1.5 multiplier is nothing to sneeze at. This usually happens after I drop off a sequence of side quests and rack up the rewards. If, however, I am in the midst of a quest, I prefer to camp and get the stat boost from Ignis’ home cooking instead. The point is to always watch your numbers. Don’t just do what’s convenient.
Do side quests. The tangible benefits are very real, even if the quests themselves are, for the most part, standard fetch fluff. Cindy’s quests help upgrade the Regalia. Vyv’s photography missions provide a hefty stream of much-needed cash. Dino gives you an expensive accessory after every quest. Plus, as you romp around the landscape, you’ll run into the elusive Royal Tombs you need to max out Noctis’ Armiger weapons.
Fast travel. Frankly, this game takes forever to play, which makes it extra nice the game has built in multiple fast-travel points at any given moment. You can instantly return to the entrances of dungeons, or your car, or your last camping site. “You should walk as much as possible,” says every other guide on the Internet. Well, you will do a lot of walking no matter what. Save time where you can.
Use magic. It’s easy to forget about, since you have to craft it yourself, but nothing helps settle a numbers fight faster than throwing a grenade of lightning straight into it. Just try not to set your friends on fire, too.
