PaigeFTW: No Space, No Problems

I always think I have enough gigabytes.

“Well, how much space could I possibly need?” I ask myself, mulling the difference between one terabyte and 500 gigs. I honestly can’t tell you offhand how many gigabytes a terabyte even is (I just googled it. It’s 100 gigs). I consider cost. I consider the enormity of filling all the space. It seems endless. Five hundred is such a big number. I can manage. I can totally manage. It’ll be fine.

So I do the cheaper thing because I’m a young adult, and that’s what we do in life.

Eventually, I regret it — like right now, when I decide to download the Steampunk Pack for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate on PS4, only to then spend 15 minutes deciding whether I was ever really going to finishing playing Injustice: Gods Among Us. I conclude that I am not, partially because I am not very good at it and partially because deleting it would win me back 22 valuable gigs of my mostly gone 500.

It makes me wonder who exactly sat down and determined that this was an appropriate size for a gaming console hard drive. Is the assumption that I will simply never play more than eight games (which average 40 gigs in install size)? That’s absurd. Am I supposed to be deleting games as soon as I finish them? That’s also absurd.

I could, of course, install a new hard drive. It’s not difficult or prohibitively expensive, though the idea of touching my PS4’s innards frightens me. I could also switch to PC gaming, though that would be a pricey transition to make.

I am momentarily standing at a precipice of frustration, the ultimate #firstworldproblem because I couldn’t spend an extra $100 two years ago to save me from this moment of inconvenience.

Given the state of the world today, I was thankful that that was the worst thing in my life I had to complain about this Thanksgiving. We’re very lucky.
