Omoplata Toe Hold
By Burton Richardson
You have several options once you get to the omoplata position. One is to try to finish the bent arm lock submission by sitting up, securing the opponent’s waist, and lifting your hips. You can also try the wrist lock, or roll the opponent over so you end up on top and past his guard.
There is another route that catches opponents by surprise. Instead of sitting up, you can lay back and attack the opponent’s foot. If you are going for the right foot, grasp the top of the foot near the toes with your left hand. Weave your right arm over his Achilles tendon and grab over your left wrist. Cinch your arms in and pull towards yourself. Apply rotational torque to lock his ankle and get the tap!
