A straight cross is one of the most powerful punches, but if you read the incoming blow, you can counter with a straight cross of your own. The key is head movement. As the opponent moves forward with his cross, move your head outside of his punch while meeting him with your own cross. The goal is to have his punch go right over your shoulder while you land your blow in the middle of his attack. It is shocking to be struck while attacking, and since he is moving forward, the power of your punch is increased. If you read his intentions, you can slip and land your most powerful cross.
